《湖南美术家汇传(1840—1949)》是继《口述湖南美术史(1949—2009)》之后,由地域视觉艺术史研究团队整理编辑的一本记录1840年至1949年间出生的湖南艺术家书籍,是目前较为完整的湖南美术家名录。这些美术家是湖南美术事业的主力军,他们为湖南美术创作、史论研究、编辑组织、美术设计、美术教育等方面作出了重大贡献,本书以词条的方式撰述他们的艺术经历、代表作品及出版著作,希望为研究湖南美术史的学者们提供可参考的资料。

The Compiled Biographies of Fine Artists of Hunan (1840-1949) is a documentary record of artists of Hunan born in the years from 1840 to 1949, compiled and edited by the research team of regional visual art history, following the publishing of its An Oral History of Fine Arts of Hunan (1949-2009). It offers a catalogue with considerable coverage of fine artists of Hunan. These artists are the driving force of the fine arts causes in Hunan, having made significant contributions to fine arts creation, history and theory studies, editorial organization, fine arts design and education of Hunan. The book is written in the form of name entries about their artistic career, representative works and publications. The hope is to provide a reference for scholars studying the fine arts history of Hunan.

 


 

后记

 

从2008年底开始筹备“口述湖南美术史”项目,至今已将近十年。在编写《口述湖南美术史(1949—2009)》一书的过程中,我们对湖南美术工作者、参与者进行人物访谈,并查找大量文献资料来佐证被采访者的“口述”。但是,在收集整理资料的过程中,团队常常会遇到一些查找人物的瓶颈,一些对湖南有特别意义的美术工作者可能由于各种原因资料不全或是完全没有资料而制约了最后成文的准确性。因此,我们觉得非常有必要编写一本湖南美术的工具书,这不仅仅是为我们自己研究湖南美术的脉络提供基础,更是为将来的湖南美术史研究者提供一个较为全面的湖南美术资料库,于是就有了这一本《湖南美术家汇传(1840—1949)》。

Almost a decade has passed since the preparation for the Oral History of Arts of Hunan project was initiated at the end of 2008. When compiling An Oral History of Arts of Hunan (1949-2009), we interviewed professionals and participants of art circles in Hunan, and searched extensively for literature materials to validate the "oral statements" given by the interviewees. However, in gathering and organizing the materials, the team frequently found itself at a bottleneck when some people could not be located. Some art workers who have special impact on Hunan may have been missed out due to incomplete or absent materials, which in turn poses limitation on the accuracy of our finished book. For these reasons, we believe it was necessary to compile a reference book on arts of Hunan, not only to provide a basis for our own studies of heritage of fine arts in Hunan, but also to offer a relatively comprehensive database on Hunan' s fine arts for scholars of fine arts history of Hunan in the future. These are the background for Compiled Biographies of Fine Artists of Hunan (1840-1949).



 

 

在编写《湖南美术家汇传(1840—1949)》的过程中,我们思考和讨论了各种成书的体例:字典、人名录、小传,等等,并征求了专家学者们大量意见和建议,直到确认现在书中以“美术家汇传”的方式来编辑整理。从收集整理素材到编辑编写文字,我们尽力地呈现出湖南美术的发展,把湖南美术工作者清晰地记录下来,找出不同画种、不同门类、不同年代的代表人物,并整理出一条较为完整的文脉线,形成一本相对完整的美术史书籍,为湖南地域美术研究打下基础,为地域美术收藏家提供参考资料。

During the compilation of the Compiled Biographies of Fine Artists of Hunan (1840-1949), we gave lots of thoughts and discussions to the form that the book was to take in, amongst choices of dictionary, catalogue, or summarized biographies etc. We also sought opinions and suggestions from experts and scholars. In the end it was confirmed that the form of "compiled biographies of fine artists" was to be adopted for the compilation and edition. Throughout the gathering of materials to edition and drafting, we invested great effort to present the development timeline of fine arts in Hunan and a clear documentary of fine arts workers of Hunan. We identified the representative figures of different categories, schools and periods in history, and produced a timeline of heritage to considerable integrity, and the fine arts history book of considerable coverage that follows. The intention is to build a foundation for regional art studies of Hunan and reference for the regional fine arts collectors. 

 

 

 

 

湖南的美术事业离不开所有美术工作者、参与者的无私奉献,我们在编辑这本书的过程中,想尽全力将所有奉献者们都呈现出来,但是仍留下一些遗憾。例如,南京美术专科学校的创办人高希舜先生、武昌艺术专科学校的创办人蒋兰圃先生、湖南私立华中高级艺术职业学校的创办人张淑诚女士,他们为中国和湖南培养了大批优秀的美术人才,为湖南乃至全国的美术发展作出了重要贡献,但在现代美术史中,对这三个人的研究并不是很深入,确切地说很有欠缺。再如,决澜社基本成员周多先生与段平佑先生、留法画家李风白先生、留日画家成诗泉先生等,这些湖南籍画家一直秉承湖湘精神,坚持在美术创作上深入探索追求,但由于各类原因对他们的履历及艺术创作也挖掘得不够。另外,因20世纪20年代社会变革等原因,各所专业艺术院校的美术专业毕业生在毕业后没有从事相关专业工作;新中国成立后,因特殊历史原因,部分从事美术工作的人员选择不从事艺术创作或者回到家乡担任小学、中学教师……这些情况实在是湖南美术的遗憾之事。尽管有很多的遗憾,我们仍然希望通过编辑出版此书,能够尽可能全面地呈现湖南美术家的基本状态和湖南美术发展的历史文脉,让读者对湖南美术具有一定的、基本的认识;但由于时间跨度、特定时期等其他原因,很难一一收集艺术家的名录和信息,难免出现遗漏,还请读者见谅。

The selfless devotions of all the fine arts professionals and participants have been indispensable to the development of fine arts in Hunan. Our intention in compiling this book is to present all these people who have made their contribution. However, some are inevitably missed out to our regret. For instance, the esteemed Mr. Gao Xishun, founder of Nanjing Fine Arts College, Mr. Jiang Lanpu, founder of Wuchang Art College, and Madame Zhang Shucheng, founder of Hunan Private Huazhong Fine Arts School, are among those who cultivated a large number of excellent fine arts talents for China and Hunan, and made important contribution to the development of fine arts in Hunan and the country as a whole. However, the modern fine arts history studies have not reached due depth as far as these three prominent figures are concerned. To be exact, studies on their works are far from sufficient. Other examples include the founding members of Juelan Society, Mr. Zhou Duo and Mr. Duan Pingyou, painting artist Li Fengbai who studied in France, and painting artist Cheng Shiquan who studied in Japan. These artists from Hunan had upheld the spirits of Huxiang, and persisted in their explorations to great depth in creative fine arts. However, there is little available to be explored as to their history and artistic works, for various reasons. Also, due to the social changes in the 1920s, many fine arts graduates from fine arts colleges did not pursue related careers after graduation. After the People' s Republic was founded, for certain history reasons, some fine arts workers chose to end their artistic career, or went back to their hometowns to work as primary or middle school teachers. It is the loss of fine arts causes of Hunan. Yet despite the many imperfections, we hope to present as comprehensively as possible the basic state of fine artists of Hunan and the historical and cultural heritage of fine arts development in Hunan through this book, for readers to gain some basic understanding of fine arts in Hunan. Due to the span of time, certain periods in history and other reasons, we were unable to cover all artists and their information in this catalogue and or to avoid any omission, for which we ask for the readers' kind understanding.

马建成,辽宁沈阳人,1962年出生于湖南长沙,湖南省设计艺术家协会副主席兼秘书长、湖南省油画学会副主席兼秘书长。长期致力于视觉艺术的组织服务及研究创作工作,组建了以美术、设计艺术为研究方向的地域视觉艺术史研究团队,编辑出版了《口述湖南美术史(1949—2009)》《湖南设计艺术三十年》《湖南文艺60年·设计艺术卷》等多本著作。

A native of Shenyang, Liaoning, born in Changsha, Hunan in 1962. Vice President and Secretary General of Hunan Design Artists Association, and Vice President and Secretary General of Hunan Oil Painting Society. For many years, he has been dedicated to the organization service, research and creative works of visual art, and organized the regional visual art history research team oriented in fine arts and design art research. The team has edited and published An Oral History of Fine Arts of Hunan (1949-2009), Three Decades of Design Art in Hunan, Six Decades of Arts and Culture in Hunan - Design Art Volume, and many other well-received works.
